GOODYEAR, Arizona – On the first challenging ground ball that Mike Moustakas has had this spring at third base, he slipped on the ground, prompting the trainers onto the field to look at him.
On Moustakas’ second challenging play on Wednesday night against Cleveland, he made a running backhand grab on a sharp ground ball down the third-base line and made a strong throw to first base. The runner was called safe, but the Cincinnati Reds dugout was surprised by a call that might have been challenged during the regular season.
It was the second day of the Reds' new infield with Moustakas at third base and Eugenio Suárez at shortstop, and it was another up-and-down game defensively as the Reds beat Cleveland 12-7 at Goodyear Ballpark.
