LOS ANGELES –– Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell is surrounded by reminders of how much has changed since his big league career ended in 2006.
Bell’s shoulder soreness doesn't go away anymore. He has watched some of his former managers retire and has seen players that he knew as young big leaguers become managers. He loves reminiscing on his at-bats against the small group of pitchers that he faced who are still in the big leagues, like Adam Wainwright and Rich Hill.
Bell, 50 years old, isn’t a young manager anymore.
“One thing that might be a fear of mine is as I get further away from playing the game, I never want to forget what that’s like,” Bell said.
