ATLANTA – Between 2018 and 2020, when infielder Brandon Drury went from an everyday starter to a utility player whose career was on the brink, he spent three years looking for a mechanical adjustment to fix his swing.
In 2017, Drury posted an impressive .267 batting average as the starting second baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Then, he lost his rhythm at the plate. From 2018 through 2020, Drury hit .205, and he reached a career low .152 batting average in 2020. He couldn’t find a way out of a three-year slump.
This spring, Drury joined the Cincinnati Reds on a minor league contract and made the team as a backup infielder.
