How a football injury shaped Cincinnati Reds reliever Heath Hembree's entire career

In a football game against his high school’s biggest rival in 2006, Heath Hembree saw an opening as the defense pulled off the line of scrimmage.

During Hembree’s senior year as the quarterback at Broome High School in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Hembree took off out of the pocket. He got to the two-yard line and leapt into the end-zone for a touchdown.

And he tore his ACL.

“Just one of those plays where I tucked it and decided to run it,” Hembree said. “I went to jump at the goal line and somebody clipped under me.
