SAN DIEGO – Cincinnati Reds reliever Alex Young caught a break when Jake Cronenworth lined out with two runners on base for the second out of the fifth inning Monday, but he was out of luck when he left a changeup over the plate to Ha-Seong Kim.
Young, who entered with a 0.71 ERA after giving up one run in 12 2/3 innings, surrendered a go-ahead, three-run homer to Kim that lined over the left field wall in an 8-3 loss to the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. It was the fourth changeup Young threw Kim in their five-pitch at-bat, and the only one that didn’t move off the plate.
