CLEVELAND -- The Reds are down another starting pitcher after they placed rookie left-hander Amir Garrett on the 10-day disabled list Thursday with right hip inflammation.
Taking the roster spot for Garrett is right-hander Jake Buchanan, who was claimed off waivers from the Cubs. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, first baseman Peter O'Brien was designated for assignment.
Garrett has a 6.00 ERA in eight starts, but his past two outings were poor performances. On Tuesday vs. the Indians, he allowed seven earned runs, five hits and a walk over five innings for a no-decision during the Reds' 8-7 loss.
