GOODYEAR, Ariz. – As the Cincinnati Reds search for more bullpen depth, they’re in agreement on a contract with free-agent reliever Hunter Strickland, The Enquirer learned Tuesday.
Strickland, a 33-year-old righty, had a 2.61 ERA in 57 appearances with the Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels and Milwaukee Brewers last year. He struck out 58 in 58 2/3 innings while walking 22. His deal with the Reds is pending a physical and has yet to be announced by the club.
An eight-year veteran, Strickland spent his first five seasons with the San Francisco Giants. He was a part of the Giants’ bullpen when they won a World Series in 2014 and he made three relief appearances for the Brewers in last year’s postseason.
