PHOENIX – About 20 minutes before Saturday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Reds infielder Freddy Galvis was rolling groundballs to a child on the right-field line.
The 5-year-old boy named Damien took a photo with Galvis at spring training before the 2018 season when Galvis played for the San Diego Padres. Since that interaction, Galvis has remained Damien’s favorite player.
Damien wanted to see Galvis play for his birthday, so his family drove him from San Diego to Phoenix for Saturday’s game.
