Former Red Brandon Phillips hits go-ahead home run in 9th in debut for Boston Red Sox

Update: Former Cincinnati Reds fan favorite Brandon Phillips hit a go-ahead, two-run home run in the 9th inning to give the Boston Red Sox a 9-8 lead in a game they trailed 7-1. It was his first Major League Baseball home run since Sept. 26, 2017.

Earlier: Phillips didn't waste any time endearing himself to Boston Red Sox fans in his debut with the team Wednesday afternoon against the Braves in his hometown of Atlanta.

In the 2nd inning, Phillips walked and advanced to third on a single by Rafael Devers. Then, on Brock Holt's groundout to first, Braves first baseman Lucas Duda couldn't keep Phillips from heads-up baserunning in scoring on a head-first slide into home.
