Bill Fischer, the Cincinnati Reds' pitching coach from 1979 to 1983 and more recently a senior pitching advisor for the Kansas City Royals, died Tuesday at the age of 88, according to an announcement Wednesday from the Royals.

No cause was given for Fischer's death.

Fischer spent more than seven decades as a player and coach in professional baseball.

"I know he had a huge impact on Roger Clemens' career and Tom Seaver," Royals general manager Dayton Moore said, according to kcstar.com's Pete Grathoff. Seaver pitched for the Reds from 1977 to 1982.
