Former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Homer Bailey signs minor league deal with Kansas City Royals

Homer Bailey will try to prove himself with a new team this spring.

Bailey signed a minor league contract with the Royals, the team announced Saturday, which includes an invitation to spring training. He will make $550,000, the Major League minimum, if he makes the big-league roster and he can opt out of his contract on March 25, according to MLB.com.

The 32-year-old pitcher spent his entire career with the Reds, selected with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2004 MLB Draft. He agreed to a six-year, $105 million contract extension in 2014 and dealt with several injuries afterward.
