Corky Miller was less than three hours away from giving his first speech as a professional baseball manager, but he still had no idea what he would say to his players.
After spending eleven seasons in Major League Baseball, seven years as a backup catcher for the Cincinnati Reds and the past five years as the franchise’s catching coordinator, Miller finally has the chance to manage a professional baseball team.
At 5 p.m. on Friday, Miller would address the Joliet Slammers, an independent team in Illinois that plays in the Frontier League. Miller guessed he would share his expectations for following safety protocols and tell his players they will have a chance this summer to prove they can stick as professionals.
