The Cincinnati Reds, like many teams, are expected to reduce their payroll this winter, but Wednesday's non-tender deadline will force them to show their cards on how much they plan to cut salary.
Teams must decide whether to tender contracts to players under team control by 8 p.m. Wednesday. The non-tender decisions mainly affect players who are eligible for arbitration and will receive raises. The Reds non-tendered Kevin Gausman and José Peraza last year and Billy Hamilton in 2018.
The Reds have nine arbitration-eligible players this offseason: Michael Lorenzen, Archie Bradley, Curt Casali, Brian Goodwin, Luis Castillo, Jesse Winker, Amir Garrett, Tyler Mahle and Kyle Farmer.
