GOODYEAR, Arizona – After the Cincinnati Reds signed utility infielder Donovan Solano, he had a long meeting with Reds manager David Bell.
Solano had been a second baseman for most of his career, and Solano knew when he signed that Jonathan India had that starting position locked up. Bell explained a long list of ideas he had to get Solano into the lineup, using him at nearly every infield position, a corner outfielder and a designated hitter.
On Tuesday, Solano injured his hamstring running the bases against the Texas Rangers. Bell said he’ll miss the start of the season, and now the Reds will need to fill the variety of roles that Solano had on the team.
