Lou Piniella, who managed the Cincinnati Reds from 1990 to 1992 - leading the team to its most recent World Series Championship with a sweep of the Oakland A's in 1990 - and currently serves as a senior advisor to baseball operations for the Reds, missed election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by one vote on Sunday.
Piniella and former Reds manager Davey Johnson were among 10 names on the Today's Game Era ballot reviewed and voted on Sunday at the Baseball Winter Meetings.
Relief pitcher Lee Smith, who made 43 appearances for the Reds in 1996, was elected by the Today's Game Era Committee for the Class of 2019, along with Harold Baines.
