After spending seven consecutive seasons in the Cincinnati Reds’ organization, Jim Riggleman was named the New York Mets’ bench coach Monday evening, the team announced.
Riggleman helped the Reds to a 64-80 record as an interim manager last season, working the previous two seasons as a bench coach to former Reds manager Bryan Price. He will work with second-year manager Mickey Callaway in New York.
It will be Riggleman’s ninth organization since he started his coaching career in 1981.
Price also interviewed for the position, according to Newsday, as the Mets prioritized experience managing in the National League.
