GOODYEAR, Ariz. — The first thing that jumps out about Eugenio Suarez’s contract to me is that it tops out at $11 million a year.
That’s a very good living, but it’s cheap in today’s baseball. To wit: Twelve third baseman make more than $11 million this year. Suarez doesn't get to $11 million until 2022.
But Suarez’s agent did a good job of reading the market.
Two free-agent third baseman signed this offseason. Todd Frazier got a $17 million for two years from the New York Mets, and Mike Moustakas got a $6.5 million for one year from the Kansas City Royals.
