After the final game of the 2019 season, everything started to set in for Eugenio Suárez on a phenomenal individual season.
Suárez hit 49 home runs, the most ever by a Venezuelan-born player and the second-most in the Majors last season. His hot streak following the All-Star break with a 1.081 on-base plus slugging percentage was one of the best performances in franchise history. He received the Luis Aparicio Award, which is given to the top Venezuelan player, in a tight vote over Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr.
At the beginning of the offseason, Suárez’s wife threw him a surprise party in Miami to celebrate his accomplishments.
