GOODYEAR, Ariz. – When Cincinnati Reds right-hander Drew Storen first hit the majors back in 2009, his fastball velocity was sitting between 95-96 mph. As with most pitchers, his fastball has gradually slowed since then. It eventually dipped to the 93-94 range, and last year averaged 92.
Signed this offseason to a one-year deal, Storen is hoping to sit around 92 against in 2017. That would require a bump from where he’s been during spring training, with scouts pegging his velocity between 88-90 mph.
“I know it was probably a little bit down last year, but I’m good with that,” Storen said.
