Doc: It still starts with starting pitching

David Letterman was at the Reds game Sunday, sitting in the Diamond Seats, deeply white-bearded and looking like Santa Claus. Maybe for Christmas, he can give the Reds a starting rotation.

The erstwhile Late Night host was gracious afterward, praising the club for “a great day. They could not have been nicer.’’ Homer Bailey was an equally gracious host, allowing the St. Louis Cardinals 10 runs in three innings. “Just one of those days,’’ Bailey noted.

St. Louis beat the Reds 13-4. When you lose by nine at home, that’s a problem. When you lose by nine and your best-paid pitcher is giving up 10, that strikes at deeper issues.
