Dick Williams, the Cincinnati Reds’ president of baseball operations, had a meeting with owner Bob Castellini at the end of August where he shared some surprising news:
Williams told Castellini that the 2020 season was likely going to be his last year as the head of the front office, no matter how the team’s season ended.
He was told to keep an open mind after the August meeting, but Williams confirmed his decision in meeting with Castellini this week and resigned from his position Wednesday.
“When we sat down, I told him we were going to make the postseason this year, even though it didn’t look that way at the time,” Williams said.
