A few days after Derek Dietrich was granted his release by the Cincinnati Reds because he wasn't placed on the Opening Day 30-man roster, he announced Thursday he will stay in the National League Central and sign with the Chicago Cubs.
Dietrich announced he was joining the Cubs through an Instagram post: "Next Chapter! Excited to be a part of this historical organization!! Go Cubs Go!"
The 31-year-old Dietrich missed the first two weeks of preseason camp after he tested positive for COVID-19. He reported to the Reds' alternate camp at Prasco Park in Mason once he arrived, but he remained in the organization for only five more days.
