Derek Dietrich released by Cincinnati Reds after he requests his release

Derek Dietrich, who missed the first two weeks of preseason camp after he tested positive for COVID-19, requested his release from the Cincinnati Reds after he wasn't placed on the Opening Day 30-man roster.

Several non-roster invitees to camp could request their release if they weren't named to the active roster by Saturday. The Reds are not allowed to re-sign Dietrich this season because he was removed from the team's 60-player pool.

Dietrich participated in his first workout at Prasco Park in Mason on Wednesday. He had one at-bat in Sunday's scrimmage at Great American Ball Park.
