GOODYEAR, Arizona – The other day Cincinnati Reds Manager David Bell was asked about the backup first baseman. He gave a bit of a stay-tuned answer.
That’s because a Derek Dietrich signing was in the works. Dietrich arrived at spring training Wednesday after officially signing Tuesday. He’s on a minor league contract, but based on his track record he has an excellent chance to make the team.
Dietrich, 29, is a six-year big league veteran – with the Miami Marlins. He hit .265 with 16 home runs and 45 RBI in 499 at-bats last year.
