The Arizona Diamondbacks announced that former Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jonny Gomes will be the new hitting coach for the team's rookie-level affiliate in the Arizona League.
The 37-year-old Gomes played 13 seasons in the Majors. Gomes ended his stint with Japan's Rakuten Golden Eagles by “mutual consent" in 2016 with the hopes of returning to Major League Baseball. He last played in the big-leagues with the Kansas City Royals' World Series championship-winning team in 2015.
