SAN FRANCISCO – Growing up about a 90-minute drive away from San Francisco, Reds reliever David Hernandez had a lot of family in the Oracle Park crowd Saturday, including his two sons.
"I had some extra motivation," he said. He pitched like he had a point to prove, striking out five of the six batters he faced. He threw 25 pitches and racked up 11 swings and misses.
Hernandez was the most dominant reliever in a big day for the Reds' bullpen, which tossed five scoreless innings to help the Reds to a 5-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
