David Bell: Cincinnati Reds using Luis Cessa as an opener 'likely a one-time thing'

LOS ANGELES – Using Luis Cessa as an opener for Reiver Sanmartin for Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t work as well as the Cincinnati Reds planned.

Cessa gave up five hits and three runs in the first inning, though most of it came through soft contact that found its way into the outfield. Sanmartin entered in the second inning, beginning with No. 8 hitter Cody Bellinger, and he tossed five scoreless frames in the Reds’ eventual 9-3 loss at Dodger Stadium.

“(Cessa is) one of our best relievers, so it was most likely a one-time thing,” Reds Manager David Bell said.
