NEWCOMERSTOWN The 2020 Cy Young Award — named for Ohio native Denton "Cy" Young — had an all-Ohio flavor as both winners of the prestigious honor are members of Ohio major league baseball teams.
Cleveland Indians pitcher Shane Bieber was the unanimous choice in the American League, and Trevor Bauer of the Cincinnati Reds won the Cy Young Award for the National League.
The award recognizes the phenomenal pitching ability of Cy Young, who played in the majors in the 1890s and the early 1900s.
Young was born March 29, 1867, on a farm near the hamlet of Gilmore in southern Tuscarawas County.
