GOODYEAR, Arizona – Major changes to Anthony DeSclafani’s delivery started before the 2019 season. During the offseason, he focused on a shorter arm path and he wanted to develop his curveball.
It was easy to see some of the effects from his shorter arm path. He threw harder than ever, adding 1.2 mph to his fastball from the previous season, according to Statcast. He finished with a 9-9 record and 3.89 ERA, striking out 167 batters in 166 u2154 innings.
It’s difficult to make wholesale changes to a delivery after throwing one way for an entire career.
