The Reds traded last year’s Opening Day starting center fielder, Scott Schebler, to the Atlanta Braves for cash Friday.
Schebler was designated for assignment Sunday to make room on the roster for left-hander Brooks Raley.
Schebler began last season 1-for-21, including an 0-for-18 start. He was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on May 4 and spent the rest of the season there. With the addition of Shogo Akiyama and Nick Castellanos, Schebler’s chances of making the team were slim.
The Reds obtained Schebler in December of 2015 from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the three-team Todd Frazier trade.
