Though the Reds had been assumed to be out of the postseason race for the last several weeks, Cincinnati was officially eliminated from playoff contention with last night’s 8-2 loss in Chicago. The Cincinnati Reds made a valiant effort this offseason to right the ship, but barring 11 straight wins, the franchise will suffer its sixth consecutive losing season. What went wrong?
Dick Williams and Nick Krall gave it a go. Instead of staying the course and following the model laid out by other clubs, the Reds decided to go an opposite direction. A bevy of moves this offseason including the addition of Yasiel Puig, Sonny Gray and Alex Wood signified a willingness to go for it.
