Joey Votto was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday. Votto was hit by a pitch on Aug. 4 and tried to play through a lower leg injury. Bobby Nightengale, Cincinnati Enquirer
The juxtaposition was hard to miss.
One day after Miami pitcher Jose Urena was suspended six games for hitting Atlanta outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. with a pitch, Joey Votto went on the disabled list with the lingering effects of getting hit by Washington reliever Ryan Madson on Aug. 4.
Both Madson and Urena said it was unintentional – missing a chance to be the first pitcher in history to admit to deliberately hitting someone.
