GOODYEAR, Ariz. – For the first time in about a week, Reds right-hander Sonny Gray threw pitches off a mound in a side session Thursday.
Gray was scratched from his start in the Reds’ spring opener last weekend because of stiffness in his right elbow. He’s played catch multiple times afterward but pitching off a mound represented the next step in his progression toward pitching in games.
