The offseason of the Cincinnati Reds has been filled with trade rumors and cleaning up the 40-man roster, but the team made its first roster addition on Friday by signing reliever Blake Wood to a one-year, major-league contract. The financial terms of the deal have not been reported.
Wood, a 6-foot-5 right-hander, spent the 2015 season in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, pitching the entire year in Triple-A Indianapolis. The 30-year-old posted a 3.53 ERA and 1.31 WHIP, while saving 29 games. Wood also struck out 70 batters in 58.2 innings, while walking 25.
