The Cincinnati Reds have signed catcher Jordan Pacheco to a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training, the team announced on Friday afternoon.
Pacheco — a five-year big league veteran who will turn 30 years old on Jan. 30 — also plays first base and third base.
An alumnus of the University of Mexico, he was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the ninth round of the 2007 draft and debuted in Denver during the 2011 season. After coming in sixth in National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2012, Pacheco’s playing time and production declined in subsequent seasons.
