Scooter Gennett, the Reds’ second baseman, looked back over his right shoulder, sprinting into the outfield and trying to track the baseball like a receiver catches a fade pass.
Nearing the right-field line, Gennett touched the ball with his glove but he couldn’t secure the catch as he fell into the outfield grass. By the time he ran down the ball afterward, Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward was running into third base with a three-run triple.
