Beginning a four-game weekend series against the Chicago Cubs, the Cincinnati Reds will be short one pitcher on their roster.
Reliever Jared Hughes, who was suspended three games last week, dropped his appeal and will begin serving the suspension Thursday night. The Reds are not allowed to replace Hughes on their 25-man roster during the suspension.
Hughes was ejected from the Reds’ game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 30 when he hit Starling Marte with the first pitch of the ninth inning.
