GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Learning from last year, Reds reliever David Hernandez decided to press pause on his pitching schedule after he felt some soreness in his shoulder.
Hernandez was supposed to start pitching in spring training games last week, but his arm didn’t feel great a few days after throwing a live batting practice session. He felt a similar soreness last spring, tried to pitch through it and opened the 2018 season on the injured list. He waited until the end of April to make his first appearance.
“Rather than waiting ‘til the second or third week of March to say something, I just decided to say something now,” Hernandez said.
