LAS VEGAS – There was no hiding Amir Garrett’s excitement when he stepped on the mound at Las Vegas Ballpark. He bobbed his head to the hip-hop music playing over the speakers as he tossed his final warm-up pitches.
He couldn’t remember the last time he pitched in Las Vegas, his hometown. Maybe American Legion games before he fully focused on basketball in high school. He had a pre-draft workout at the College of Southern Nevada in 2011.
When he returned Saturday, he had family and friends scattered throughout the sold-out crowd of 10,385. He struck out two in a scoreless inning, drawing a few swings and misses with his slider.
