Before Saturday’s game against the Washington Nationals, the Reds announced they had called up outfielder Kyle Waldrop from Triple-A Louisville, while optioning right-handed reliever Dayan Diaz to Triple-A.
In 175 plate appearances with Triple-A Louisville this season, Waldrop is hitting .247/.291/.383 with 10 doubles, four home runs and 17 runs batted in.
Since being named the Reds’ minor league player of the year in 2014, the left-handed hitter has really struggled adjusting to Triple-A pitching, batting only .213/.247/.297. Plate discipline has been a problem for him throughout his career, and even more so since moving to Triple-A, where his strikeout rate sits at 23.
