Cincinnati Reds promote pitching prospect Andrew Abbott to Triple-A Louisville

There may not be a minor league pitcher who has performed as well as Cincinnati Reds prospect Andrew Abbott to begin the season and he was rewarded with a promotion Sunday night.

Abbott, a 23-year-old lefthander, was promoted to Triple-A Louisville. In three starts at Double-A Chattanooga this season, he permitted six hits and two runs in 15 2/3 innings with a jaw-dropping 36 strikeouts and three walks. It's the highest strikeout rate among all minor leaguers who have pitched more than five innings.

A second-round pick out of the University of Virginia in 2021, Abbott features a four-pitch mix with a fastball that sits in the low 90s.
