The Cincinnati Reds continued to shuffle their roster as they hit the halfway point in their season, and they designated outfielder Phillip Ervin for assignment on Friday.
Ervin, the club's first-round pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, was out of minor league options and was 3-for-35 at the plate this season without any extra-base hits. The Reds have seven days to trade Ervin or place him on waivers.
Along with the Ervin roster decision, the Reds placed starting pitcher Wade Miley on the 10-day injured list (IL) with a left shoulder strain, one day after he pitched four scoreless innings.
