The Cincinnati Reds placed reliever Pedro Strop on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a right groin strain and called up infielder Josh VanMeter.
Strop threw eight pitches and just one strike in Friday's 8-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. His final pitch was a 91-mph fastball in the dirt. Strop stumbled off the mound and he winced as manager David Bell and trainer Tomas Vera walked to the mound. He returned the dugout after a short chat.
Bell said Strop was likely headed to the IL on Saturday. Strop allowed three runs (one earned) and one hit across 2 1/3 innings this season.
