As the Cincinnati Reds move forward after changes to their player development staff, pitching coach Derek Johnson will assume Director of Pitching duties, the club announced Thursday.
The Director of Pitching title, which is responsible for the development and communication of pitching philosophies throughout the minor leagues, was held by Kyle Boddy last season. The Reds moved on from Boddy in September after two years in the organization.
“D.J. is going to be responsible for the development and communication of our pitching philosophy and initiatives throughout the organization, from the Major League team all the way down through our minor league affiliates,” Reds general manager Nick Krall said in a statment.
