Nick Lodolo didn’t have the pinpoint location he showed in previous starts, and his wildness pushed the Cincinnati Reds to the top of the record books.
Lodolo, who struck out 11 batters and walked zero in consecutive starts, battled his control for most of his five-inning outing against the Boston Red Sox during Tuesday’s series opener, and it caught up to him at times in a 5-3 loss at Great American Ball Park.
The 6-foot-6 left-hander allowed three hits, three runs, three walks and he hit three batters. It’s the last part that made history.
The Reds broke an all-time Major League record when Lodolo hit Boston first baseman Yu Chang with a curveball in the fourth inning, according to Elias Sports Bureau.
