WASHINGTON, D.C. – After walking the fifth batter in 1 1/3 innings, Jeff Hoffman motioned to the Cincinnati Reds dugout for a trainer.
Reds manager David Bell and head trainer Steve Baumann met Hoffman on the mound. After a brief chat, Hoffman headed toward the clubhouse with an apparent injury.
It was a rough outing for Hoffman, allowing five walks and two singles while recording only four outs. He threw 46 pitches, 20 strikes. The Reds were trailing by two runs when Hoffman exited as reliever Brad Brach inherited two runners on base in the second inning.
