Cincinnati Reds outhit by the Chicago White Sox starting pitcher in loss

In the middle of the fourth inning on Tuesday night, the Cincinnati Reds had no hits and Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease was 2-for-2 with a double.

Entering the game, the Reds had scored the most runs in baseball, and Cease hadn’t had an at-bat since high school. Defying the law of averages, he had two more hits than the Reds.

The Reds lost 9-0 to the White Sox and were shut out at Great American Ball Park for the first time this season.

Cease, who has a 4.68 career ERA, took his no-hitter into the fifth inning, but Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart broke it up with a single to right field.
