Shogo Akiyama will soon report to the Cincinnati Reds’ alternate site in Louisville to take the next step in his rehab process.
Akiyama, who strained his left hamstring, has been playing catch since the team’s final week in Arizona. He’s been doing some running, including in a pool, hitting off a tee and doing some front-toss with pitches thrown to him from a short distance away.
There is no firm timetable for his return but reporting to Louisville will give him an opportunity to eventually play in rehab “games.” Unlike last year, alternate site teams will play controlled scrimmages against each other.
