GOODYEAR, Arizona – Cody Reed didn't know there was a runner on second as he warmed up for a Cactus League appearance in the top of the ninth inning Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox.
That's because there wasn't anybody on second base before the Cincinnati Reds left-hander took the mound.
The score was tied at 4 after eight innings, so Reds Manager David Bell and White Sox skipper Rick Renteria agreed to enact the rule implemented in the minor leagues last year to begin extra innings with a runner at second base.
