SCOTTSDALE, Arizona – Nicky Delmonico was sidelined at the start of camp because of knee soreness, but he’s been trying to make up for lost time.
Delmonico, a lefty hitter, has six hits in 17 at-bats with four doubles and six RBI against mostly minor-league pitchers. He’s primarily played left field in his big-league career, but his versatility at first base could give him a shot at making the Opening Day roster, especially if Joey Votto misses the start of the season after testing positive for COVID-19.
He signed a non-roster deal with the Reds in the offseason after playing six games with the Chicago White Sox last year.
